Arsenal Back-Up Likely for Porto Match
Arsenal FC are scheduled to face off against FC Porto in UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday, 21 February, and the English side could potentially see a much-needed boost in their numbers.
According to reports, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu have recovered enough from their injuries in time to play Wednesday’s game.
Jesus underwent knee surgery last August before suffering another knee injury earlier this year. Meanwhile, Vieira was out for some time after undergoing surgery for a groin injury.
As for Zinchenko and Tomiyasu, they missed several recent Arsenal games due to calf injuries.
Other names who are currently on the shelf include Jurrien Timber (knee injury) and Thomas Partey (thigh injury); however, they will likely be back in action from March onwards.
“The most important thing to impact at the end of the season is to have the squad fully available,” coach Mikel Arteta commented in an interview with an English soccer blog last Friday, 16 February. “And at the moment, we don’t have it. And we’re going to have to have it, and we are working really hard to have it. This is requirement number one.”
